Anyone who’s dealt with chronic acne, knows the frustration of trying it all in order to get rid of the stubborn condition. And it’s not a condition that only come with bumps. Physically, it comes with pain, and leaves with scars. I talked about its emotional toll in a previous post.
When it comes to acne there’s so much advice on what one should do to combat it. Eliminate dairy, cut out sugar, avoid fast food those are all things we hear when dealing with chronic acne. Or the good ol, wash your face more. But what if there was more to it than just avoiding a food group or two or purchasing another soap that promises glowing skin…
I once heard, that chronic acne is a symptom of underlying issues that have typically been left untreated for years. And it’s gotten to the point where it is finally showing up on the skin, most commonly the face.
If that’s true than avoiding a food group or two likely won’t be enough to see long lasting improvements.
As someone who’s dealt with acne for over 10 years, believe you me I’ve eliminated every food group, color, type you can think of and here I am….
I’ve talked to many acne sufferers who have also tried many different elimination diets ; some even try to eliminate environmental toxins, synthetic pillow cases or makeup.
For some that’s all it takes, but for many it takes much more than just eliminating a few things or everything…. I think it’s time to consider adding in some support. It’s something I’m working on currently by adding in vegetables into my diet, salt into my drinks , deep breathing into my day.
I’ve learned after years of avoiding so much, that maybe it’s time to ADD things in. To support my body with more fuel, more rest, more care instead of just depriving it in the hopes it’ll be the cure all.
Who knows what the outcome will be, acne is a tricky one after all. But I at least know another elimination isn’t the answer. Maybe one day we’ll find the sweet spot of additions and subtractions that keeps those stubborn red zits, painful bumps, inflamed cysts and whiteheads away for good!
To all the acne sufferers out there, many hugs as we all continue to dedicate ourselves to our skin.
