It was mid- September, in Indiana when a life event called for a family to travel there from Alabama. The evening was filled with laughter, good food and the comfort of being around family. Unfortunately, as the sun began to set and the wind picked up, it became quite uncomfortable for one of the ladies who had traveled up. Back home, it was 75° and the evening brought a refreshing cool. But up here where the temperature was a high of 50° that day, the evening wind and night sky, brought on an uncomfortable chill. The poor lady wanted to continue fellowship, but she was just so cold she couldn’t bear. She turned to her arms for comfort and they provided a quick warmth but it only lasted a moment. She quickly became miserable by the cold and didn’t know what to do. She was wearing a t shirt and didn’t even bring a jacket. However, she was in luck!!!
Her cousin witnessed her demeanor and instinctively responded with warmth. She went in her car and grabbed a plush, fluffy warm blanket and ran it over to her cousin. She gently wrapped it around her cousin and asked if she wanted to keep this? They were going to be here for 3 days and she couldn’t imagine being uncomfortable that long.
With a huge smile, she accepted the blanket and offer to keep it and relished in the warmth that now accompanied her. Not only was this a warm act of cousin care, but her body began to heat up and she was able to enjoy the fellowship with her family.
She used the blanket the rest of the 3 day trip and took it back home with her. She thinks of her cousin often when she reaches for the blanket now and it reminds her of her family hours away. It reminds her of a moment when she felt held. It reminds her of a blanket that saved the day.
