Silk presses don’t like water. We’ve all experienced a beautiful silk press, that once hit with water, reverted to its curly state prematurely.

Keeping a clean body is apart of daily hygiene for most women who wear silk presses. There is no need to self-sabotage by eliminating this daily hygiene routine, when all you have to do is tweak it a little from the way you may be used to showering.

Step 1- make sure you are covering your hair to protect it from getting wet while in the shower. Opting for a shower cap covers the hair’s entirety and adding a headband to go on top of it keeps it secured tight enough to keep and water or steam out. You can still wash your face as normal this way you just may have to adjust as you go.

Step 2- ensure that you’re setting up your environment for success. This could mean turning the fan on, keeping any vents open and keeping the door opened or cracked. This helps prevent the bathroom from steaming up which could lead to sweating your hair out. This is an important step you don’t want to forget 🙂

Last step- the last and final step in keeping your silk press from reverting while showering is keeping the water temperature on the cooler side. This doesn’t mean it has to be cold or unbearable. Just cool enough to wear it’s still comfortable. You’d be surprised what a difference this step makes. This step is the icing on the cake though. Meaning, following steps 1&2 is crucial as well.
