How I strive to protect my hair after a silk press- while wearing it down.

We all know that natural hair requires TLC. Lately I’ve been allowing myself to get more silk presses to change up my look. With my baby face I sometimes feel like my 2 braids or halo braid can somewhat make my look childish. But that’s neither here nor there. The main thing, is how I’ve been maintaining my silk presses by protecting the ends of my hair while still wearing it down.

If you don’t know what a silk press is, it’s basically just the straightening of natural hair while using strategic products and systems. I’m still learning to do my own. But honestly, all I do is opt for silk or satin shirts whenever I can when wearing my hair down. This is especially true in the winter when it’s impractical to wear a tank top or dress that is strapless or back less which would allow your hair to fall on your skin vs the fabric of garments. But when that’s not an option I choose either a silk blouse, like worn in my photo collage which has become my favorite option because they are cute, breathable and come in fabulous colors. I own about 6 silk blouses now where I can get away with wearing one for just about an entire week. Another option if silk blouses aren’t your thing or you don’t have time for the care that comes with it are of course satin blouses, but also silk (or satin) scarves. When long enough, these can be tied around your neck or draped over your shoulders like a shawl, fulfilling the same purpose of protecting the ends of your hair!

This has been a game changer for me because I can now wear my hair down without the worry of damaging it by having it rub up against harsh garments.
